Jakarta: Viu today announced the release of its first Viu Original film in Indonesia, “Kenapa Harus Bule.” With Putri Ayudya in the lead as Pipin, this film is set in Bali and is a comical satire about the search for the ideal “Bule,” a fascination for Pipin.

“Kenapa Harus Bule” is a collaboration between Viu and Kalyana Shira Films & Good Sheep Productions. It is directed by Andri Cung and produced by Nia Dinata. “Kenapa Harus Bule” is a unique story about how today’s modern Indonesian female can control her destiny, including selecting a life partner. The story is cleverly executed, full of witty situations and will make audiences laugh while thinking about the impact of the choices they make. In addition to Putri Ayudya, the prominent cast includes Cornelio Sunny, Michael Kho and Natalius Chendana.

“It has been while since I’ve watched a film that features a modern woman as the main character who is witty and strong-willed, despite the challenges she goes through in her life. The Pipin character here is so relatable that when Andri Cung came to me with the Kenapa Harus Bule idea, I was very excited. I invited Andri to meet Viu and let him pitch his story. The rest is history,” said Nia Dinata, the Producer of “Kenapa Harus Bule.”

I have modeled the main character on a real-life person I researched closely, so that I could capture the tiny details that would help audiences connect with Pipin.
